Hello! I am a social researcher, educator and former communications practitioner. In the broadest sense, I am interested in the stories, narratives and discourses that shape our social world, and how they influence intercultural interactions. My academic journey formally began with my PhD, where I analysed how 'religion' is conceptualised and perceived in Australian news media, and who has the power to shape these ideas. This interest evolved into a broader focus on social and communicative inclusion for marginalised communities in superdiverse Australia.

I completed my PhD in Media and Communications from RMIT University, MA in Global Media Communications from the University of Melbourne, and BA from the National University of Singapore, with majors in English Literature and European Studies. I currently serve as Co-Managing Editor for the Journal of Religion, Media and Digital Culture. I am a Teaching Fellow with the School of Communication and Creative Arts and a Research Fellow at the Deakin Institute for Citizenship and Globalisation at Deakin University, and an Honorary Research Associate at Whitley College, University of Divinity. I formerly served as Vice President for the Australian Association for the Study of Religion (AASR).

Altogether, I have more than a decade of social research experience from working on government and industry-funded research projects. These projects were funded by the Australian Research Council (ARC), the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), the International Research Network for the Study of Science and Belief in Society (INSBS) and the Alfred Deakin Institute for Citizenship and Globalisation (ADI).

Prior to academia, I worked in various advocacy/communication roles that include: as Marketing (Head) of *SCAPE, a not-for-profit youth organisation that celebrates the diversity of creative youth expressions, and as co-founder of Maki Squarepatch, a sustainability-focused small business.
