Teaching philosophy
I take a student-centred approach in my teaching, with a belief that my students hold unique knowledge from their backgrounds and experiences, and that they bring these perspectives into a shared learning environment in the classroom.
I aim to create spaces for critical dialogue, where my students can interrogate their own assumptions about any sociological and cultural phenomenon to develop a more critical and nuanced way of perceiving their social world.
Education is about meaningful engagement to prepare our students for current and future real-world challenges. Theories and concepts come alive in my classroom, as students are taught to adopt a new set of lens to perceive their world, to broaden their horizon just that smidge more.
Central to my practice is a commitment to developing students’ transferable skill sets in an evolving media environment, whilst being attentive to their wellbeing. I approach teaching relationally and pastorally, with a personal challenge of remembering everyone’s names to start with!

‘I'm going to be honest and say that, going into the subject, I didn't know what to expect because this was out of my comfort zone. But when I actually come up with an idea and start developing it, the subject becomes more and more engaging. I get to learn so much about how to research and after this course, I appreciate all the works of scholars even more. Enqi was my tutor and she's amazing. It is easy to get a grasp of what she is teaching and I would say she was very involved in the students' works and made sure to provide help whenever needed. I really appreciate that. Thank you Enqi and the teaching team for a good semester!’ - final year media & communications student, 2024.
